However, after my colleague and I drove through a foot of snow through the woods in my F-150 and his Tahoe, without a problem, for eight kilometres, my brain went “why buy an Outback when you can get a Raptor?”
My brain is dumb but it does have a point.

But do you often drive ‘ through a foot of snow through the woods’?
If so, how often?
Often enough to necessitate g iving u p fuel mileage and road manners for all the rest of the time you’ll be driving on the asphalt!?

See, I know you’re right, and the Outback would be much more me.
However, the idea of 6.2 litres of glory, sending it through the grids, fields, and snow, is incredibly appealing.
And it wasn’t hyperbole. There was no road. We followed tracks, and prayed the creek was frozen.

In NY I would say absolutely. Its suspension alone would be a godsend for some of our roads.

Ranger Raptor or F150 Raptor?

You could always hire or borrow from a friend when needed.

The heart wants what the heart wants
Big Merican V8s are dumb but soo such fun, I can totally see your point...

Yes but your F- 150 is not a Raptor and it did the job just fine...

You could always get the outback, lift it, add big tires and drive thru a foot of snow in that

The 6.2 in the Raptor is a very reliable engine, in fact that whole gen of Raptor is extremely reliable. Subaru’s are... something.

Don’t listen to Svend... he’s being much too reasonable. You know you neeeeed that 6.2 liters of glory.... hehehehhe

Your brain is finally leading you towards glory.

A Raptor will surely influence more feet of snow adventures

But if you're spending money on a new vehicle, might as well aim for what you really want!

F150 Raptor, no Ranger Raptors here.
![]() 12/14/2019 at 10:43 |

I could, but also 6.2 litre.

Aren’t you a ways from Fort Mac?
Hey, hearses don’t have luggage racks, go for it.

The 6.2 Raptor will be more reliable than the Outback, no question about it

I’m a long ways from Fort Mac, but still in a very rural spot.
Unsure of your second comment, I never need to move bodies with my personal vehicle.

I was thinking a Raptor had an oilfield bro connotation.
The other comment means enjoy things now, you can’t take it with you. If you can work your dream car into the budget, why not?

Ah, yeah, fair point.
And also true.

You’re being too reasonable.
I’d drive one no questions asked. I don’t even get snow.

Compromise with a 2019 Raptor. More power better mpg and adaptive suspension so it doesn’t wallow on the street

I know, I’m a boring old fart.
I’ve a practical, economical yet still massive Skoda Superb.
Maybe I need a Bowler Nemesis EXR S with a 600bhp 5.0 Jaguar V8.
![]() 12/14/2019 at 14:25 |

No. Get rid of the Raptor shite, your not doing a sodding rally raid everyday.
Less power, more fuel economy. But yes, adaptive suspension.
![]() 12/14/2019 at 15:17 |

P lus, the Nemesis makes glorious supercharger noises.
I mean the raptor gets like 16 mpg. That's totally fine. I get like 18 now and the raptor makes more power.
![]() 12/14/2019 at 15:37 |

I get 55UKmpg (46USmpg) from a 1.5TSi ACT in a 1,792Kg (3,950 lbs) car.

M aximum I can get regularly is 21ish mpg if I only drive highway out of a 3.4L in a car that weighs the same.

Ouch.

As an owner of a big dumb Am erican V8 (Coyote 5.0), I approve of this message.
I do recommend starting a GSP as soon as possible . It’s similar to an HSP (health savings plan). It’s the Gas Savings Plan. Start pre-saving all your pennies for the beast that is THE BIG V8.

I too have a bigly V8 (LS6, 5.7L) and i completely get it :)
Its raw, unrefined even but when you open it up above 5k, oooof, nothing sounds as gnarly as that thing!

It is worth noting that the quality of the roads in Sask is often not great.....the regular expansion heaves on the highway are especially unpleasant, and I assume something with suspension like a Raptor would be a lot smoother over them.
![]() 12/14/2019 at 20:41 |

That's a lot of money over a standard pickup for smoother suspension. Lol.
